Trinity Catholic High School - Basics

Select a View

To achieve a ‘balanced curriculum’ in Year 10, students can choose four options - one from each option block in addition to RE from any option block. In total students will, therefore, be studying for 9.5 GCSEs.

All students in Year 10 are required to study the following subjects: R.E. (a full GCSE), English Language and Literature (worth two full GCSEs), Maths (a full GCSE), Core Science (at least as a full GCSE though options exist to study 2 or 3 GCSEs in this area), P.E. (at least a GCSE short course although the option exists for the full GCSE to be studied), I.T. (at least a GCSE short course although options exist for a full GCSE), PRE (during PRE in Year 10 all students will undertake a short course GCSE), Preparation for Working Life. In addition, as part of the curriculum, all students will study Citizenship, PRE and Work Related Learning.

Advice from the School

A Language and a Design and Technology subject at KS4 used to be compulsory subjects at GCSE. This however is no longer the case and students will find that these subjects now form part of the ‘option’ subjects. Nevertheless it must be stressed that a Modern Foreign Language and a Design and Technology subject help provide breadth and a balance to GCSE choices. It is important when making option choices that a balance between subjects demanding a variety of skills and approaches is sought. That balance is vital in order that as wide a basis as possible is achieved in order to pursue further qualifications, career aspirations or interests later in life.
