Beal High School - Options Process

Summary

  1. Students make a selection from 30 courses.
  2. Each course is placed in 1 of 5 families to encourage students to choose a broad curriculum.
  3. Each course is assigned a colour depending on the typical style of delivery in lessons.
  4. Each time a student selects an options set, they receive feedback as to whether the combination is acceptable.

Advice

  • At this stage, it's more important to think about what subjects you like and dislike rather than what career you want to follow in the future. Most teachers will advise you to keep your options open;
  • Remember to talk to your family and your teachers before making your final decision. Over the next two years, half your timetable will have been determined by your choices;
  • To keep life interesting, many students will choose their subjects from a wide range of subject families; however this may not be the best option for you so, if you want to make a more specialised choice, don't be afraid to ask for special permission;
  • Remember, it is vital you choose two sensible and realistic reserve options. At this stage we can't guarantee you will get all your main choices.
