At present the 17 secondary schools in Redbridge offer, on average, 9 core subjects and 23 optional subjects. Please note that the courses offered by each school are for pupils at that school. There is currently no facility for movement of pupils between schools at Years 10 and 11. This does not include courses offered through the Redbridge Link which enables pupils to attend Redbridge College for specific subjects.
All schools have, as part of their compulsory curriculum, English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education and Religious or Personal/Social Education. Statistics or Additional Maths are sometimes offered to higher achieving students and Science is offered in various different formats: Science; Additional Science; separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Some schools make a modern foreign language and/or I.C.T. compulsory.
Physical Education is usually offered as a non-examination course; however in a few schools all students are entered for at least a short-course GCSE or Sports Leaders Award. Core Religious/Social Education is offered in different forms and under different names, examples of which are: Religious Education; P.S.H.E, P.H.S.E, P.R.E.; Citizenship etc.
All 17 schools have different options processes in most of which students have their choices "restricted" in some way to reflect the ethos or specialism of the school or simply to ensure all students take up what is considered to be a balanced curriculum. All schools offer in-depth guidance to students and parents.
